A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a pine cone in silhouette surmounted in base by a bayonet fesswise both base metal, the bayonet supporting a green spade with point up, overall a gold color projectile palewise. Attached below the device a green scroll inscribed EYES OF HICKORY in gold letters.
Yellow and green are taken from the coat of arms for the unit. The pine cone alludes to North Carolina, the home area of the unit. The bayonet refers to the Infantry mission of the unit in November 1920 and at present. The spade represents the Engineer mission and the projectile, the Artillery mission, both in the organizations history.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 4 October 1965.
